Miniaturen für Spieluhr mit Lochstreifen (2023)

Die Idee zu diesem Stück entstand spontan im Urlaub in einem Hamburger Musikaliengeschäft, das Spieluhren mit Lochstreifen verkaufte, die man mit eigenen Kompositionen bespielen kann. Das größte dieser Instrumente kann immerhin 30 verschiedene Töne spielen, es gibt aber keine Dynamikunterschiede und nur eine begrenzte Repetiergeschwindigkeit. Die elf Stücke sind Charakterstücke, auf kurzem Raum versuchen sie eine Stimmung und zugleich eine bestimmte musikalische Kompositionstechnik einzufangen und zu entwickeln (die Länge der Stücke sollte im Wesentlichen der Länge eines Lochstreifens entsprechen, allerdings musste ich davon bei ein paar Sätzen eine Ausnahme machen). Jedes der Stücke ist einer Stadt gewidmet, die ich bislang bereist habe, die Musik ist also im doppelten Sinne ein Souvenir. Die Vortragsbezeichnungen jedes Stückes versuchen eine prägnante Erinnerung atmosphärisch einzufangen.
”Souvenir” kann ebenfalls auf einem Klavier, Cembalo oder einem anderen Tasteninstrument realisiert werden, dafür ist die entsprechende Notenausgabe erhältlich.

The idea for this piece came about spontaneously while on vacation in a music store in Hamburg that sold music boxes with perforated strips that you can play with your own compositions. The largest of these instruments can play 30 different notes, but there are no dynamic differences and only a limited repetition speed. The eleven pieces are character pieces, in a short duration they try to capture and develop a mood and at the same time a certain compositional technique. Each of the pieces is dedicated to a city I have traveled to, so the music is a souvenir in two senses. The performance markings of each piece try to capture a concise memory atmospherically. "Souvenir" can also be performed on a piano, harpsichord or other keyboard instrument, for which the corresponding sheet music is available.

1. Paris.
   Romantic, like the streets going from Moulin Rouge up the Montmartre in the evening

2. Fazana.
   Dreamy, like the dusty road in the middle of nowhere and the beautiful intimacy of the little harbour

3. Sydney.
   Energetic, like an overwhelming place somewhere far away

4. Monschau.
   Tender, like the beautiful, small old town on a misty December day

5. Pisa.
   Mechanical, with a feeling of slowly tipping over…

6. Aarhus.
   Mysterious and colorful, like the impressive museum of modern art in the center of the town

7. Maastricht.
   Like the tower chimes of the city hall

8. Hamburg.
   Murmuring, like water running through the canals, with a feeling of grandieur

9. Tiers am Rosengarten.
   Slow and peaceful, the feeling of looking up the vast mountains glowing purple at dawn

10. Bergen.
    Infinite, like the winding pathway up the Fløyen mountain until you reach the platform with the spectacular view over the city

11. Cuxhaven.
    Calm, the feeling of stillness walking down the beach promenade early in the morning
